The short version
What Expenddy is, and what it is for.
What Expenddy is
Expenddy is an expense-splitting and expense-tracking app. You record a shared expense in a group, split it equally, by exact amount or by percentage, see who owes whom, and mark balances settled once someone pays.
Create a group, add what you paid, and Expenddy keeps track of who owes whom — across trips, flatmates and anything else people split. It also handles one-to-one IOUs and your own personal spending.
The problem it solves
Shared costs go wrong in the gap between paying and remembering. A spreadsheet needs someone to maintain it, a group chat buries the numbers under conversation, and mental arithmetic quietly favours whoever is worst at it. Expenddy holds one shared record that recalculates the moment anything changes, so the balance is never a matter of opinion.
Who it's for
Expenddy is built for these people.
Flatmates splitting rent, utilities and the weekly shop
Friends on a trip where different people pay for different things
Couples keeping a shared record without merging their money
Anyone lending small amounts and losing track of who repaid what

Why it's different
What Expenddy gets right.
Three ways to split, and it checks the maths
Equally, by exact amounts, or by percentage. Exact and percentage splits have to add up to the total before the expense is accepted, so a mistyped share can't quietly corrupt everyone's balances.
English and Arabic, RTL included
The Android app mirrors its entire interface in Arabic rather than just swapping strings — laid out right to left, end to end. The web app is English only for now.
More than groups
One-to-one friend ledgers track informal lending as 'you gave' and 'you got' with a running balance, and personal expense tracking keeps your own spending private to you.
It records payments, it doesn't make them
Expenddy is not a bank and never moves money. Recording a settlement notes that a payment already happened — in cash, by transfer, however you actually paid.
How it works
Five steps, and none of them is arithmetic.
The whole loop, from creating a group to clearing a balance.
Create a group
Start a group for the trip, the flat, the couple or a one-off event. Group types are General, Trip, Home, Couple and Other.
Add the people sharing the cost
Invite members by email, phone number or an invite link. People who are not on Expenddy yet can still be invited — the invitation attaches to their account when they sign up.
Record an expense
Enter the amount and what it was for, choose who paid, pick who shares it, and choose the split method. Attach a photo of the bill if you want a record of it.
Check the balances
Expenddy recalculates immediately and shows what you owe and what you are owed, per person. No mental arithmetic, no spreadsheet to update.
Settle up and record it
Pay whoever you owe however you normally pay, then record the settlement. The balance clears and the payment stays in the history. Record one by mistake and you can void or edit it — the original is annotated rather than erased.
Splitting
Three ways to split, and when each one is right.
Exact and percentage splits are validated before the expense is accepted: the shares have to reconcile to the total, so a typo cannot quietly move money between people's balances.
| Method | What it does | Example | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equal | The total is divided evenly between everyone included in the split. | A Rs 12,000 dinner shared by four people gives each person a Rs 3,000 share. | Everyone consumed roughly the same thing — a shared taxi, a group dinner, a joint gift. |
| Exact | You type each person's share as a currency amount, and the shares must add up to the total. | A Rs 12,000 grocery run where Rs 7,000 was one person's own items and Rs 5,000 was shared: enter the two amounts directly. | People consumed clearly different amounts and you know the real numbers. |
| Percentage | You give each person a percentage of the total, and the percentages must total 100%. | Rent of Rs 100,000 split 60/40 between two people gives shares of Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000. | The ratio is stable but the amount changes each time — rent by room size, a bill split by income. |

Expenddy records each expense in a currency and nets balances separately for each one. It does not convert between currencies or apply exchange rates, so a debt in one currency is never cancelled by a payment in another.
Languages
The Android app's interface is available in English and Arabic, including full right-to-left layout in Arabic. The web app is currently English only.
Right-to-left support means the layout mirrors — navigation, icons, alignment and the direction numbers read in — rather than Arabic strings being poured into a left-to-right screen.
Scope
What Expenddy is not.
Stated plainly, because an expense app that touches money gets mistaken for a payment app — by people and by machines.
Questions
Expenddy, answered.
What is Expenddy?
- Expenddy is an expense-splitting and expense-tracking app built by DetSol. You record a shared expense in a group, split it equally, by exact amount or by percentage, see who owes whom, and mark balances settled once someone pays. It also tracks one-to-one IOUs and your own personal spending.
Who builds Expenddy?
- Expenddy is built and operated by DetSol, a software company in Lahore, Pakistan. DetSol also builds Stockroot, inventory and business management software. The Google Play listing for Expenddy names DetSol as the builder.
How does Expenddy split expenses?
- Expenddy offers three split methods: equal, exact amounts and percentage. You record who paid, choose which members share the expense, and pick the method. Expenddy converts that into a share for each person and updates everyone's balance immediately.
Can Expenddy split a bill equally?
- Yes. An equal split divides the total evenly between everyone included in that expense, and recalculates as you add or remove people. Equal is the default split method in Expenddy.
Can I split expenses by exact amounts?
- Yes. An exact split lets you type each person's share as a currency amount. Expenddy checks that the shares add up to the expense total and refuses the expense if they do not, so a mistyped share cannot silently corrupt the balances.
Can I split expenses by percentage?
- Yes. A percentage split lets you give each person a percentage of the total. The percentages must add up to 100%, and Expenddy converts them into currency amounts against the expense total. This suits costs where the ratio is stable but the amount changes, such as rent split by room size.
Can I track who owes whom?
- Yes. Every Expenddy group shows what you owe and what you are owed, broken down per person. Balances recalculate the moment an expense is added, edited or deleted, so nobody has to do arithmetic or maintain a spreadsheet.
Can I use Expenddy with roommates?
- Yes. Create a group of the Home type for the household, add your flatmates, and record rent, utilities and shopping as they happen. Recurring costs with a stable ratio can use a percentage split, while one-off shared costs can be split equally or by exact amounts.
Can I use Expenddy for a group trip?
- Yes. Expenddy has a Trip group type for exactly this. Different people pay for different things as the trip goes on, each expense records who actually paid, and at the end the group shows what each person owes rather than requiring anyone to reconstruct it afterwards.
Can I track IOUs without creating a group?
- Yes. Expenddy has one-to-one friend ledgers, which are separate from groups. A friend ledger is a running list of 'you gave' and 'you got' entries against one person with a live balance of who is ahead. There is no split, because there is nothing to divide.
Can I record a settlement when someone pays me back?
- Yes. When a payment happens, you record it in Expenddy and the balances clear. Settlements are kept as a dated history. If a settlement was recorded by mistake it can be voided or edited, and the balance movement is reversed exactly — the original record is annotated rather than erased.
Does Expenddy support multiple currencies?
- Expenddy supports eight currencies: US dollar, pound sterling, euro, Indian rupee, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, UAE dirham and Pakistani rupee. Each expense is recorded in a currency and balances are netted separately for each one. Expenddy does not convert between currencies or apply exchange rates, so a debt in one currency is never cancelled by a payment in another.
Does Expenddy support Arabic?
- Yes, in the Android app. Expenddy's Android interface is fully translated into Arabic, including a complete right-to-left layout rather than Arabic text in a left-to-right screen. The web app at expenddy.com is currently English only.
Can I attach a receipt or a photo of the bill?
- Yes. You can attach a photo of the bill to an expense in Expenddy, so the amount can be checked later without anyone hunting for paper.
Is Expenddy free?
- Yes. Expenddy is free to use. There is no paid tier and no subscription.
Is Expenddy available on iPhone?
- Not yet as a native app. Expenddy is live on Google Play for Android, and an iOS app is in development with no release date announced. iPhone and iPad users can use the full web app at expenddy.com in Safari today — same account and same data as the mobile app.
Does Expenddy move or hold money?
- No. Expenddy is not a bank, a payment service or a money transmitter, and it never moves, holds or transfers money. It does not connect to your bank account and never sees card or account numbers. Recording a settlement notes that a payment happened elsewhere — in cash, by bank transfer, or however you actually paid.
Can I get my data out of Expenddy?
- Yes. Expenddy exports a group's ledger, a one-to-one friend ledger or your personal records to CSV.
